Mind the gap between the way we organise ourselves at work, and what we’re really capable of!

Globally, 87% of employees are disengaged. How to cope with such disengagement? What if it were possible to design organisations to be just ahead of the curve?

It’s possible. Start by asking the question, “what’s the root cause of disengagement?” It’s when we identify the root cause of disengagement that we can intervene with precision, quickly, effectively, with the lowest possible cost.

Employee disengagement relates to something we call, “the mind-culture gap.” The gap occurs when the mind is capable of handling greater complexity than the organisation’s systems and structures will allow. A sign of the gap is when employees feel held back by the organisational culture or, “the way we do things around here.”

The mind-culture gap is commonplace. In this three-part programme, “Mind The Gap,” you will learn to identify the mind-culture gap for individuals, team and organisation, and discover effective ways to close the gap.

What are the learning outcomes of MIND THE GAP?

Part I: Making Sense of Values

  1. Explore and map the journey humanity has taken over the last 120,000 years.
  2. Relate humanity’s journey directly to work by examining how leadership styles and organisational cultures adapt and emerge in response to changing life conditions.
  3. Make sense of values — what are they, how they are formed, when and why they change, and why it’s beneficial to align organisational culture around shared ideals rather than values.
  4. Identify the worldviews that underpin your own values, and your personal readiness for change. Understanding yourself provides the platform for understanding others.

Part II: Assessing Cultural Readiness for Change (Part I is pre-requisite)

  1. Scan an organisation for clues about its culture and readiness for change in its systems, structures, infrastructure and artefacts.
  2. Conduct a culture scan using online instruments, and a small sample of 3 people, to identify the “mind-culture-gap” inside an organisation.
  3. Predict the culture that is coming next naturally for an organisation.
  4. Identify and interview hot spots and trend setters inside the organisation.

Part III: Nurturing a Healthy, Thriving Culture (Parts I and II are pre-requisite)

  1. Apply the 6 Conditions for Change to stimulate openness, engagement, creativity and innovation.
  2. Select the Change Response most likely to result in lasting change without unintended consequences.
  3. Discover techniques to “fast forward” an organisation to catch-up with employees, customers, suppliers, investors, competitors or regulators.
  4. Support organisational leaders with elegantly simple ways to close the mind-culture gap and engage employees.

How are the workshops conducted?

  • The days are filled with stimulating information, based upon scientific research, to support the learner to look at their organisation, community, and world from a discerning lens in order to begin to spot the mind-cultural-gap.
  • Sprinkled throughout the days are participatory exercises to deepen the learning.
  • We make it practical by inviting participants to apply the exercises to a real organisation.
  • Key learning outcomes will be derived at the end of each day.
