Solonics Level II — Culture Scanning

CULTURE SCANNING

Like genes, memes do not operate in solo, but interlock
in the mosaics that form
weltanshauungs, worldviews.

Howard Bloom

“Culture scanning” is a core competency of the Solonic practitioner, and the first step in any intervention. A thorough “culture scan” equips the stage development-aware practitioner with the insights that are necessary for designing appropriate interventions.

The phrase, “culture scanning,” is shorthand for a bio-psycho-cultural and social systems scan. In this eight-week virtual programme, practitioners learn to deeply observe, sense and assess the change dynamics inside self, individuals and groups.

It takes time to stimulate the latent capacities of integral awareness that are prerequisites for culture scanning. This programme is designed to accelerate the process by facilitating the integration of the metaphors, principles and practices of an evolving body of knowledge, first known as, “The Graves Technology,” and which today we describe as Solonics.

No stone is left unturned as we explore together the inner and outer aspects of change in both individuals and organisations through case studies and exercises.

Upon completion of the course, the Solonic practitioner will have new awareness, insights, and practices that are helpful for culture scanning from a life-in-total perspective.

Which competencies are developed?

Practitioners mesh existing skills with new competencies to build an enduring bespoke practice.

The programme develops “culture scanning” competencies, specifically the ability to…

  • Fully recognise one’s own stance, or “Solonic Address.”
  • Scan for the active Coping Mechanisms (or vMEME’s) in individuals and organisations.
  • Scan the memetic signatures (semes and themes) of each active Coping Mechanism that are embedded in the bio-psycho-cultural and social systems.
  • Observe, sense, assess and anticipate the deep change dynamics within and between Coping Mechanisms.
  • Communicate, organise and manage with full regard to the Coping Mechanisms active within a given situation.

How does learning occur?

This programme follows on naturally from Solonics Level 1, and goes deeper theoretically. We polish overall capability through “quick-turn action-learn” exercises, where we build on the contextual and meaning reframe that is a natural consequence of Solonics Level 1, and apply new knowledge, using established methods, to achieve useful application for self and others.

  • Attend eight weekly two-hour sessions conducted over the Internet using a computer and computer headset.
  • Do several hours of “home play” between sessions, using the practitioner’s own clients (or willing friends) as the subject of inquiry.
  • Survey self and two others using 5 Deep Vital Signs online assessments to refine Coping Mechanism scanning and sensing skills.
  • Do in-class exercises with colleagues to experience a principle-based developmental journey from Base Camp to Grounded Practitioner.

Learn how to…

  • Scan and interpret in order to be able to design half a step ahead of the client.
  • Integrate and expand knowledge of the lineage, principles and practices associated with “The Graves Technology”, Spiral Dynamics, Spiral Dynamics Integral, and Integral Theory for effective and dedicated application in all contexts.
  • Develop a working knowledge of the Coping Mechanism recognition principles.
  • Work with one’s own Solonic Address (which is a function
of stage of development and active perspective), using 5 Deep Vital Signs survey instruments as an aid.
  • Scan the memes, or the markers of the Coping Mechanisms across cultural, social, and organisational systems.
  • Gain familiarity with issuing surveys, and managing the resulting data using the 5 Deep Vital Signs system. Develop a working awareness of several of the survey instruments offered in this system. Select the profile most appropriate for the task at hand.
  • Develop a bespoke approach to the application of culture scanning.
  • Adopt a systematic approach to cultural scanning using the Solonics Culture Scanning Checklist.

Be able to…

  • Act as a clean observer – stance matters.
  • Discern the active Coping Mechanisms in any context.
  • Interpret individual and group survey data as part of a systematic survey method.
  • Design appropriate survey interventions that fit the context.
  • Conduct an Integral Critique of another person.

Experience…

  • “I can sense the codes – my own and in the world around me.”
  • “I have a new confidence in my application of stage development awareness.”
  • “There is an elegant simplicity in the application of Solonics.”
  • “My design is so much better informed when I start with culture scanning.”

Who will benefit from attending?

  • Practitioners of Solonics from any field or profession.
  • This is a high quality and in-depth event for practitioners who wish to collaborate as part of a growing cohort of practitioners and master practitioners.

Prerequisites

Any one of the following meets the prerequisite for this Solonics Level II programme.

  • Solonics Level I
  • Spiral Dynamics Level I
  • Spiral Dynamics Integral (SDi) Level I Foundations Programme
  • The Graves Technology Level I

Certification

A Solonic Level II certificate of completion will be issued.

Who are the trainers?
